Arbor Day Open House

Thursday, November 5 | 4:00–6:30 PM | Free Admission
Discover a hidden natural treasure in the heart of Kona’s native Hawaiian dry forest. Join us for an Arbor Day Open House at Joseph Rock Arboretum, a 48-acre restoration landscape where you can wander peaceful trails, experience the beauty of a wild place, and connect with the living landscape of Hawaiʻi.
Explore the Arboretum’s restored dry forest species and distinct garden zones, including the Sacred Tree Grove and Desert Zone, each offering a unique perspective on the diversity and resilience of the plant world. Discover ancient trees, culturally significant plants used for food, medicine, and other traditional purposes, and rare species celebrated for their remarkable blooms. Visit our off-grid seed bank and native plant nursery, where seeds and plants support ongoing efforts to restore native forests and reforest lands across Hawaiʻi Island. Along the way, learn about the history of the trees, the importance of this rare ecosystem, and the work underway to restore the land to its native ecology.
Whether you’re a longtime nature lover or simply looking for a new place to explore, come enjoy an easy nature walk, connect with your community, and discover the extraordinary world of trees right here in Kona.
Join us for a Tree Planting Blessing as we celebrate the gift of trees and honor our connection to the living world. Enjoy guided walking tours, refreshments, and an opportunity to learn more about the Arboretum’s work in conservation, education, and restoration.
