The Joseph Rock Arboretum was established in 2020 in Kona, Hawaii. We care about our community. We provide field trips to children and adults with a focus on botany, ethnobotany, forest restoration, seed banking, and nursery management.
The arboretum is doing a capital campaign to build a pavilion. This will be a useful space for groups and will provide shelter from the elements as we conduct activities in the garden. The intention for this pavilion is also to be the home for (rehearsal space) the Chamber Orchestra of Kona (COOK). The COOK orchestra is a community orchestra that comprises musicians from Hawaii Island who get together every week and play for the love of music. The orchestra offers a season each year of 4 concerts a year that are free to the community. The orchestra needs a rehearsal space and it is our intention to offer this space for the orchestra’s rehearsals, small ensembles, and other musical activities that support the orchestra. Please join us in raising money for this building project.
We have obtained the architectural drawings, engineering stamp, and county permit to build this pavilion. It will be built in three stages; concrete, framing and roofing, finish. We hope to complete this project in the next two years. Please be part of this endeavor for the community!
